1. What is the PMP? The PMP is a lookup tool that health care professionals can use with “every patient, every time” to make informed choices about prescriptions for controlled substances, including opioids and benzodiazepines.
2. Who uses the PMP? Prescribers, pharmacy technicians, APRNs, and prescriber delegates use the PMP. Pharmacists maintain the information in the PMP. Texas is networked with 43 other states.*
3. Why does the PMP matter? Using the PMP helps pharmacists and prescribers keep patients and their families safe and healthy from opioid misuse, pill diversion, and drug interactions. Using the PMP is one way to address the opioid epidemic in the U.S.  
4. When will using the PMP be required? As of September 2019, prescribers and pharmacists, or their respective delegates, will be required to use the PMP.
5. Where can the PMP be accessed? Health care professionals can log in or create an account at PMP Aware: https://texas.pmpaware.net/login.
